Employees want discipline to be transparent and fair. Privacy restrictions limit how much you can actually share with them, but at a minimum you should be confident that your discipline is consistent and proportionate.

Here’s an infographic that walks through how you get there.

You can use this as a starting point to develop your own internal benchmarks and evolve them over time.  Sure, they’ll get overridden by local employment law from time to time, but that’s fine; the goal is use benchmarks to build a culture where people are confident in your work, not to create a binding employment document.
