As a veteran HCCA CI attendee from years past, I finally decided to expand my horizons and attend the SCCE CEI in Las Vegas this year. In preparing for the conference I made sure to check in with my network back home and see what their plans were. I checked my LinkedIn feed and saw that there was an “Orphan’s Dinner” on Saturday night planned by Samantha Kelen and Jay Rosen for anyone who was new to SCCE or coming to the conference as a party of one. I RSVPed for that and also made sure to sign up for the volunteer opportunity on Saturday morning.

By choosing to put yourself out there and be proactive about finding opportunities it is a great way to build your network and be more comfortable at what can be an overwhelming conference with thousands of people in attendance on Monday and Tuesday. After attending the two events on Saturday, I have bumped into many of the new people I met and had a friendly face to sit next to at many of the conference sessions.

  1. Well done. It is far too easy, particularly in a place like Las Vegas, to take the easy out and go find some fun. Well done for meeting new people, networking, and particularly volunteering.
