Shift to Engaging and Entertaining Education

I was very excited to see Compliance and Ethics professionals embracing the shift towards education through animation and creative short videos. There is no reason we can’t make it entertaining and engaging to ensure the information sticks. It can take more effort and cost to develop these but I think the retention value far outweighs the investment.

I have often dreaded the hours of stiff and unexciting training videos that are generally required at hire and annually as the core of many compliance and management improvement programs. While the addition of tests and interactivity into the presentations a few years ago did make them more engaging, many of the trainings still felt like a task you just had to get through and not as something you would enjoy or learn from. Now I hear people talk about how funny or cool a particular training was and that they retained the message instead of just checking the box. Seeing Second City (Chicago’s premier comedy show) as a vendor selling custom compliance training at the Institute gives me hope that education will continue to get better and more entertaining in the future.
