HCCA CI – Guest Blog: Crossing Paths and Small Worlds

I guess this first day has mostly been about the small world feeling in a big venue. As someone who isn’t great at small talk, let me assure you that it’s easy to connect on a range of topics. From a bite to eat before breakfast, to session #1, to lunch, and to session #2, I can’t believe what a small world we work in. I ran into a Compliance Director who is near me in northern Illinois, who uses the same EHR as my organization. We were able to talk about the challenges of that. In session #1, I talked to an IT professional who has the same challenge as we do: getting data out of their systems for audits. At lunch, I ran into another person managing the complexities of a FQHC. That’s a part of my world and there aren’t that many FQHCs in attendance, so imagine my surprise. Then I sat at a table in session #2 with someone who used to work in my hometown. What are the odds of connecting so easily with so many people? Apparently they’re high and there are connections at every opportunity without even trying. It’s making me feel more a part of this group in my third time attending. I hope others feel the same too.
