This milestone and growth of membership has a big impact on our effort to help the profession speak for itself. We have a lot of people trying to speak for compliance professionals, define the role and define the function of a compliance program.  It’s not always helpful.  Every year it gets easier and hitting 15,000 members helps.

Interestingly the 15,000th member is Laura J. Burke, Compliance Coordinator, Conflict of Interest, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  What is interesting is that St. Jude’s decided to have someone in the compliance department focus on conflicts of interest, which is really at the root of a lot of problems.  We don’t focus on it enough.  Others may follow suit.  We will be interviewing her for the cover of our magazine.  Other related info follows…

SCCE/HCCA hit 15,000 members this week.
There are 10,000 in healthcare and 5000 from about 55 other industries.
736 members are from 77 countries outside the US.
Brazil is the most active membership and certification outside the US.

7881 hold a compliance credential from the SCCE/HCCA Compliance Certification Board.
Of those, 487 hold the International version of the Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional credential (CCEP-I).

SCCE just celebrated its 10th anniversary last year.
HCCA celebrates its 20th anniversary next year.
The organization is growing at about 10% a year.
We have 79 compliance related conferences each year (6 are outside the US) and over 100 audio conferences.

I thought if nothing else, you might find it all interesting.
