Coming to Chicago for my first compliance conference, I was not sure what to expect. I am new to the compliance profession, and was not sure if the courses here would be too advanced for my understanding. However, coming into the Sheraton Grand Hotel and listening to the first keynote speaker set the tone for the rest of the event. I was engrossed from the very beginning. The decor and grandeur of the venue in combination with the presenter’s obvious passion for her research exceeded my expectations.

As I mentioned, I am newer to the profession, so the ability to pick topics that correspond directly to my day-to-day activities was essential in expanding my knowledge of this profession. The sessions pertaining to policies (conflict of interest, gifts and entertainment, anti-corruption/anti-bribery, etc.) were extremely helpful. Also, the quality of speakers exceeded my expectations. Hearing presenters that were executives from well-known multi-national companies speak about how they overcame internal struggles that were similar to mine was not only helpful but comforting as well.

I plan to take the compliance exam next year, and attend additional relevant conferences in the future to continue expanding my knowledge of ethics and compliance. I look forward to making additional contacts, and bringing an enhanced understanding of these topics back to my organization.
