Every year it just gets more exciting to attend the SCCE Annual Conference. Last year, I realized I’d been missing out on the pre-conference workshops. Being new in my role as a Senior Corporate Ethics Investigator, I decided to take the all-day Sunday Investigations Workshop. It was relevant and useful–and I forged a great professional relationship with the presenters, Al Gagne and Meric Bloch, in particular. So, of course, I made it a point to attend the pre-conference workshop again this year!

SCCE kicked off the conference Monday in GREAT form, with not one, but two, fascinating keynote addresses: “Sidetracked: Why our Decisions get Derailed,” by Francesca Gino and “Investigative Interviewing,” by Michael Johnson.

The day continued with FCPA updates, a best practices workshop to help your company understand its role in human rights laws and obligations, and a great discussion on the impacts of the Yates Memo to corporate investigators.

In addition to the wealth of information offered at each class offering, the networking lunches and breaks were a great time to catch up with old friends and meet some new colleagues. It is so refreshing to share best practices, lessons learned and have someone you can contact for advice in the future!

If you don’t already, make it a point to attend the SCCE conference each year. Just as technology and world events are changing at lightning speed, so are the laws, regulations and best practices for our industries. What better place to get a legal update, a best practices discussion or meet a colleague who will be a career-long friend.

Enjoy the conference–and can’t wait to see what 2017 holds!
