If you missed it, here’s a quick run-down of the HCCA Managed Care pre-conference on Sunday. Starting early Sunday morning with session P1 “Good to Great” with Nicole Huff and Deborah Johnson then moving into P2 “Business Partners” with Jennifer Del Villar! Both were very good reminders for experienced compliance professionals and spot on for new compliance professionals. Honestly I forgot that there are online resources that cost nothing – Compliance Jeopardy and Compliance Family Feud. In my organization that price is right! My favorite statement from Jennifer Del Villar in the second general session was “be the calm.” In chaos, especially when it’s so easy to get pulled in to the energy of the frenetic crisis of a situation, when each person involved has an opinion, it is a brilliant reminder; this is where compliance can shine.

If you missed either session check out the slides for reference, I guarantee you’ll walk away with something.

The afternoon was a bit of a whirlwind, the last impactful session of the day for me personally was “Managing a SIU in a Managed Care World.” Christopher Horan from WellCare provided great guidance with a presentation that not only reviewed the basics, provided ideas for moving your SIU forward, thoughts for Board reporting, and, real life examples for you to bring back to your own SIU if you’re not already examining these areas. (This is all in his slide deck)

Looking forward to the first full day of the conference. I just hope I can absorb it all!
