So, I believe this is my 9th Compliance Institute that I have attended and every year I think I come away with millions…. or maybe hundreds of ideas to incorporate into our Compliance Program. This year is different. After a decade of serving as a Compliance Officer (and all the other associated hats), I made a decision to change jobs. I am now serving as outside counsel to various healthcare clients. I wondered how my career change was going to affect my perception of the Compliance Institute. Were the sessions going to be applicable to the questions that I get as outside counsel? How can I use the information from the various sessions to assist my clients? What lessons can I share with my Compliance colleagues? After a first full day yesterday, I was NOT disappointed–let’s clarify here–I’ve NEVER been disappointed at a Compliance Institute! I gleaned a new perspective on the information from the sessions I attended. I will take what I learn and what my colleagues share and use that information to help my clients. It doesn’t matter what role you serve in, everyone has a responsibility when it comes to Compliance. I just have a different perspective this year. No matter your role in the Compliance realm, there is ALWAYS something for EVERYONE at the HCCA Compliance Institute! Thank you to Roy Snell and all of the HCCA workers that make this conference a success for whatever role you have!
