A room full of 3000 plus compliance professionals..unreal. Who knew so many of us could be in one room at onetime? For a split second I thought “how many mice are happily playing right now? If all the cats are here, how may unsuspecting laws are being broken?” Then I realized, none. Why? Because this room full of amazing and personable professionals has done their jobs. They have created cultures of compliance in all of their organizations by being fun, kind and approachable people. Never in my life have I been so in awe in such a large group of people committed to doing the right thing for their organizations and being so excited to learn more about one of the more under celebrated jobs in the industry. For the first time, I truly appreciate why I do what I do and what a difference we can make at our organizations and in healthcare overall. I struggle with large crowds that move in the same direction, but for the first time, I think it is awesome and do not have the urge to panic, throw up and retreat from the crowds. But, this week, I celebrate that in this profession there is a first time for everything.
