Being new to the compliance field and not knowing exactly what exactly I was getting myself into, I was and still fear many parts of this career. I would have to take a special note on the biggest tip of the morning for me was to evaluate pieces of your own compliance plan piece by piece so your not overwhelmed. You’ll want to Keep it Simple and Smart…Start by zoning in on one high risk at a time. Consistently providing periodic updates to make sure the plan meets the needs of the organization at the time – our environments are consistently under changes which leads us to know how important it is to be “ahead of the game”.

Not everyone in the organization will buy into the program, its ones job to be the seller of the importance of the program. Once the program has been instituted get your stakeholders to provide feedback on how the process went for them.

During my 1st session Compliance/Risk 101, I sat with a well versed group of individuals. Their experience ranged in healthcare, food and beverage, trust companies and lastly legal. Their kind words for a “newbie” was to get in as many sessions as possible as they all are informative and will help me gain as much information to sit for the exam when ready. My plan is to take the exam in January and thanks to this institution I am one step closer!
